SPIRITUALITY 102: HOW CAN SPOTIFY HELP IGNITE YOUR SPIRITUALITY?

I have always been slow at taking a grasp of things or understanding it. I am the person who usually uses any product during the end of their product life cycle. To sum it up, if any innovative company wants to market their product with network hubs; I am the last one on their mind. I do not have a clear understanding for the reason of this habit as of now; but I believe the answer will come to me one day. Moreover it was probably more than one year ago; I finally downloaded Spotify on my Windows phone.

My brother had been playing some nice tunes on the speaker and he told me it was Spotify; so I decided to get one. Even though Microsoft has started to focus on its Windows phone device and it’s awesome now; one year ago, if you asked me, it was SHIT.spotify 2 I am a loyal customer of Microsoft not because of their products but because the profit the founder makes from the company goes for good causes; yes I am talking about Bill Gates and the amazing work he does through his foundation. The Spotify application for Windows phone was worse than the phone itself; back then. However, I stuck by it creating my own playlist and enjoying the music; whilst listening to the advertisement not being able to skip past five songs and auto shuffling.

I had no time to download songs on my cell phone and thought; being a student the money used to buy songs could be used for something else more productive. I am not going to shell out 99 Danish Kroners for Spotify premium, monthly, at the moment. There are other greater humanitarian causes that require donations and I don’t mind contributing. Nonetheless Spotify was grateful enough to let me enjoy good songs and playlists. The problem with the playlists is that while some songs are suited for my taste, some are not.

I was stuck; I could not skip the songs because I would have already used the skipping past only five songs. Thereby, I had to listen; no matter the songs. It was painful in the beginning and my focus would only be on when the next good song would play. After a while, I surrendered and was listening to everything; had to. Over the course of time, my taste of music had broadened and the songs that were boring before were interesting and good now. I began to like everything but was more open to whatever came up.

We; humans, at the moment have enough choices and we do not value things that are around us. We are impatient and just constantly moving onto something else. I know it is part of our evolution that we have to keep moving and experiencing new things but it has also made us impatient on an alarming scale. We are stressed out if we don’t get what we want or we hide and ignore if we get the things we don’t want. We are not even in the moment and trying to evaluate what we have because we have already made up our minds; it’s boring.

Spotify gave me the rules, taught me to be patient and appreciate what I have in the moment. Everything has a string of story attached to it but our impatience has made us tumblr_nyhgm6uO3a1ulyhf2o1_1280unable to focus and observe the problems that matter the most. This not only affects the society and fosters manipulation to which we become victims; it also affects our relationship and career on a whole. Now, that you know the problem and the suggested solution; try to be open with whatever comes. Spotify can help you wire this habit into your brain; since listening music is something many of us do; most of the time. After some point you will be able to focus like the snake and be calm like the Buddha. Life will give you unexpected thing at times; however it is an opportunity for you to learn, no matter how hard it hits you.

Many of you will come up with excuses on not having Spotify or your reasons for not using it; but try your radio. If you are bold enough, listen to the genre of music you dislike the most. However don’t keep listening to only one song, I bet there are plenty of songs you dislike. This will definitely make you mad over the beginning period but will after some time; help you become better, happy, and appreciative. Next time, you hear a song that you don’t like; remember, you need to spend more time listening music on Spotify without premium or also your local radio station. If nothing just watch a TV channel that you consider boring. If it it boring; you are either ignoring it or only looking at one side of the story. You can do better!

You don’t have to thank me but you are welcome.

SPIRITUALITY 101: Diary for a change!

Over the last few years I have been practising spirituality; and while most people associate the state as being laid-back, meditative and whatever they can criticise it of; there is a science to it. A science that many within the scientific industry have been looking into and believe me, it is where around 30 percentages of the best scientific minds have been working on at the moment. Spirituality is not a fiction nor should it be associated as a taboo. It helps one to be reflective on understanding the patterns that is responsible for our current being. It is just a rational mind-set without any desires, curiosity levels at its peak and giving the best one can; every day, for self-satisfaction.

spiritual-awakening-flowerDuring my early days of reflection, the patterns were clustered. I had been only taking data or information within my brain; looking at things, observing, reflecting, primarily being at the moment but not meditating. What! Yes, my spiritual awakening has nothing to do with meditation and being a rebel; I tend to defy everything. Meditation was not left excused as well, but the interesting discovery for me was that there is another way as well. And despite meditation helping a lot of people and I have tremendous respect for this subject; I had always felt something was wrong.

714c8e17d84f463f9610cefc97c40ddfI grew up in a Hindu country in Nepal. Surrounded by weed smoking hippies and the religious saints, who had given up on life after their spiritual awakening; found all over the country. These were the guys who talked phenomenally; their words were inspiring and so reflective that I could listen to them all day. However I used to always wonder how people like these could be doing nothing; when they know about everything. Now upon reflecting, spiritual awakening is not for everybody and all the millennials who are into it like children in a candy store, Beware! It can make you feel great but can also destroy you to pieces; however you will be satisfied both ways.

The paradox of the mind of the human beings is that we don’t accept our mistakes most of the time. It is also a pattern that has been wired into our brain; so it is hardly your fault. Andrew, once reminded me that when two people are deciding who is right on a topic they will never come to a conclusion, primarily because both of them will have valid justifications and what they say is what they have experienced. This changed my life completely because it taught me something very important; everything has two different stories or logic. You can defend it both way but the reason of my mentioning it here, is that once spiritual awakening happens or you start thinking rationally, if you emphasize more on the negative, you will end up the enlightened hippie but if you emphasize more on the positive you become ‘divine’.

The world at the moment has been divided on many issues and there also exists a gap between science and the non-conventional wisdom which has been alienating all of us from one another. It is because we have experienced only one side of the story and following our pre-wired instincts in the brain we only believe in what we have experienced. Rightfully so, but we need to look at the purpose of human beings on a whole. Why do we exist? There are 9 billion answers for it because everyone has their own story. There is no need to visit museums and art galleries for inspiration, just look at people around you. On a quantum level we are all the same molecule, but every one of us are different. The sadness, happiness, jealousy, trickery and every human behaviour is a form of art; that we have always neglected because we have become materialistic. Self-happiness and self-satisfaction is only achieved after realising the value of things around you and being grateful for having it.

The next time you are in a shopping district or buying things online; ask yourself about the need of that product in your life. Now many of you definitely need ten shoes and five watches but think about the purpose of the shoe and the watches; primarily. You can lie to everyone but not to yourself. The next time old-shoeyou buy or throw something, try to understand its story; both ways and feel happy and grateful for it. Start with the old shoe, you don’t wear anymore, where had you worn them; when did you buy, why did you buy it? You will have the answer and whatever it is; you are right but there is also another side of the story.
